Lois McEwan has been a journalist for 20 years, writing and sub-editing on newspapers and magazines in Britain and abroad. She has been at The Sunday Times for more than 10 years and has worked for The Times, The Telegraph, The Guardian and The Independent. She has been practising yoga for more than 10 years, mainly Ashtanga, and is preparing for teacher training with Yoga Alliance
Expertise & Experience:
Lois has written and sub-edited for magazines including Marie Claire, Essentials, What’s on TV and Me, where she was also deputy health and beauty editor. She has written features, reviewed books and films and sub-edited on newspapers in Australia, including the Brisbane Sunday Sun, and, in Hong Kong, the South China Morning Post.
She also writes fiction and is to have a short story published by Bloomsbury in its collection of Asham Award winners this summer. Her poetry has been published in the Virago collection New Poets, broadcast by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and has won an award in the Scottish open poetry competition.
Lois took up Ashtanga yoga with Liz Lark, now a director of the Life Centre and practised with Derek Ireland. She has also stayed in Buddhist monasteries in India and Nepal and visited Tibetan monasteries to study Buddhist philosophy, after studying English and philosophy at Aberdeen University.

Yoga is the best mood enhancement I’ve come across that doesn’t involve intoxicating yourself. It even works on children; they go into class bouncing off the walls and come out like little lambs.
