Sejal Sukhadwala

Sejal Sukhadwala is a London-based freelance food journalist and restaurant critic, with over 4 years’ experience of writing for newspapers, magazines, websites, and restaurant and travel guides. She has specialist knowledge of a wide range of international cuisines, and has reviewed hundreds of UK restaurants, bars, food shops, cookery books, and artisanal food products. She has interviewed leading figures in the food industry, and also creates and publishes original recipes.

Expertise & Experience:
Sejal compiles the monthly restaurant page for Ryanair in-flight magazine, which involves reviewing 3 quirky/ unusual restaurants in different European cities each month. Additionally, she puts together the food section of Matchbox, the bi-monthly west London entertainment & lifestyle magazine. She also regularly reports on food and restaurant trends and events for WGSN, the Emap-owned trends analysis website; and reviews London restaurants for Square Meal. She is currently writing for Vogue.

Additionally, she writes for The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, and BBC Food website, and has reviewed extensively for Time Out London magazine, and numerous Time Out guides, including Eating & Drinking, Pubs & Bars, and Shopping. She has also written for The Times, The Independent, and London Lite newspapers; Caterer & Hotelkeeper, and Lexus magazines; and The First Post and Food Lovers' Britain websites. Furthermore, she reviewed restaurants for The Which? Good Food Guide 2008.

Sejal was briefly founding editor of Yum, an oriental restaurant industry magazine; and reviewed restaurants for the Japanese-owned Eat-Japan magazine for 3 years until it became a web-based venture. She is co-author of the acclaimed Night + Day Guide to London (Greenline Publications, San Francisco, 2006), for which she reviewed London’s 150 best restaurants and 20 top hotels. She regularly compiles restaurant, shopping and cultural guides for Visit London, the Mayor of London's office, and several property developers. Additionally, she has appeared on cable TV, Radio 1 and Radio 4 to advise on London restaurants and cookery courses.

Sejal also has experience of magazine design and production, and of commissioning freelancers and editing their work. She is a discerning and knowledgeable foodie with an excellent palate and a healthy appetite, and happens to be a (far-from-stereotypical) vegetarian.

Most likely to say:
“Fancy coming to review a restaurant with me?”
