Best Cleanser (Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish) |
 |
Skincare experts know that good skin starts with a great cleanser and this one's a classic. The balm and hot muslin cloth combo is not unique, but Cleanse and Polish is packed with natural ingredients that won't strip your skin, making it suitable for all skin types. It's also keenly priced within the premium market. |
| |
‘Hot cloth’ cleansers, which use a muslin cloth wrung out with hand-hot water to gently remove the cleansing balm from the face, have been around for years, but Cleanse and Polish has remained a best buy because it contains no irritating lanolin or mineral oils. Instead, it contains natural extracts such as circulation-boosting rosemary, soothing chamomile and almond milk, skin-softening cocoa butter, and brightening eucalyptus, making it great for all skin types – from mature to sensitive.

Healthy Glow |
“Lovely. Smells good, feels clean on the skin without drying, and left face with a healthy glow,” wrote Observer Woman’s Kathleen Baird Murray.
The well-loved healthy glow it imparts is one of its key selling points. It derives from the ingredients and the exfoliating action the muslin cloth creates as you use it to remove the cleanser – great for gently eliminating dead skin cells.
To use, massage the balm over a dry face with your fingers. Next, dip the muslin cloth in hand-hot water then wring it out (it should be damp, not wet), and gently massage over the face to remove the cleansing balm.
Price-wise, it’s competitive – in terms of quality, its only real rival is Eve Lom, whose cleanser is £45 for 100ml, making Cleanse and Polish very good value for money. And the pump is easy to use and hygienic. For £10, you get a 100ml cleanser. But if you're starting out, buy the Starter Kit - it's £11.25 and includes the 100ml cleanser plus two muslin cloths.

Beauty Bible |
Countless beauty editors are fans, including Kathy Phillips, who was beauty director at Vogue for seven years. It’s also gained the ultimate tried-and-tested accolade: a top place in the Beauty Bible, the annual book of tried and tested reviews from esteemed journalists Josephine Fairley and Sarah Barclay, who write, “Our highest-ever product in the Beauty Bible “Oscars”, this cleanser offers naturally active ingredients including soothing chamomile and purifying eucalyptus oil to leave skin clear and smooth. Still the highest-scoring product we've ever tested - a truly astonishing 9.5 marks out of 10. And that's an average score from 10 testers.”
