Best for Lips/Cheeks (Benefit Benetint) |
 |
A universally flattering colour, this cheek stain is the perfect pick-me-up for tired skin. It doubles as a lip tint too and, as its long-lasting formula doesn’t budge once applied, removes the need for constant touch-ups. You'll also find that, because it is concentrated, a little goes a long, long way. |

| Benetint doesn’t look like a cheek or lip product, it looks like a bottle of nail varnish. But industry insiders love the way a few dots on the cheek can be blended to create a healthy pink flush or painted on the lip for a hint of rose. |

One of its key selling points is its longevity; it’s ideal when you don’t want to keep re-applying your make-up (whether that’s on the piste while skiing or on the beach) – which isn’t surprising, once you know its history; it was created in 1977 by Benefit’s founders after a local exotic dancer requested a long-lasting pink liquid to stain her nipples for her performance.
It’s moved on since then to become a make-up artist staple. Charlotte Tilbury, who works backstage on all the major catwalk shows and creates make-up for campaigns for the likes of Louis Vuitton, loves it, and used it to create a healthy glow on models backstage at the spring fashion shows.

Lasts for Days |
Handbag’s Make-up artist John Gustafson is also a fan. “The best (tint) is Benefit Benetint. This is a liquid made of carmine rose petals. Brush it on your cheeks and blend it very quickly. It will stain your skin a natural rosy pink for about two to three days.” Don’t worry, it’s actually not that scary, and does wash off!
If you’re used to powder blushes or cream formulations, initially it can be tricky to master, but once you know the drill – three small stripes of tint across the apples of your cheeks and blend with fingers, or a couple of drops on the lips and blend immediately (it dries very quickly) – it’s easy to use.
Its concentrated formula means you only have to use a little to get a good, long-lasting result. The only flaw to flag up is about the bottle – once you’re down to the dregs of the liquid, the brush sometimes doesn’t quite reach, so you have to put your fingers over the top and turn it upside down to finish it. If you find this really too fiddly, but don’t want to live without your Benetint, go for the Benefit Pocket Pal, £14.50 – a dual-ended "pen" with a small amount of Benetint on one end and a clear lipgloss on the other.
