Best Rock Shoes (Scarpa Vantage)

Climbing Gear - Scarpa Vantage | MediumThe ideal entry-level shoe. A comfortable fit with a super-sticky sole and lasting underfoot support makes the Vantage an obvious choice for both beginners and more experienced climbers looking for great quality and value.

That’s because unlike most models aimed at the novice market, the unisex Vantage has one striking advantage: they’re actually very good.

Rival brands may be marginally cheaper, but be warned – the financial savings are worth nothing compared with what you’ll lose in quality and usability.

All too often, entry-level shoes possess poor quality, rigid rubber soles that feel unreliable and can lead to a sloppy fit.

In fact wearing a pair feels very similar to having a plank of wood strapped to either foot – ungainly, unsightly and entirely unresponsive.

Technical Specifications

Climbing Gear - Scarpa Vantage | SmallBut the Vantage is different. Developed from Scarpa’s classic Helix model, its midsole provides full underfoot support without the loss of flexibility, while its synthetic upper and foam tongue cradles the foot snugly.

Laces running the full length of the shoe provide maximum support where needed, while Scarpa’s “stickiest rubber yet” provides for outstanding grip and durability.

It makes them the perfect choice for beginners, from the first time at the wall, through to climbing at the crag as they become more proficient.

Put the Best Foot Forward

Climbing Gear - Scarpa Vantage | MediumOwners’ comments posted online tell the same story. One says: “This is a well-priced and exceptionally comfortable shoe with quite a modern look, and it fits just like a slipper.

“As this is aimed more at beginners, the last of the shoe is more comfortable as it is not as extreme as more technical shoes. This gives all-day comfort.”

Another adds: “I chose the Scarpa Vantage as my first shoe due to one reason: comfort. The design actually wraps around your foot so they feel very secure when on, and there is also good support from the midsole which allows you to use the shoe all day in comfort.”

Why to buy - Comfortable and affordable beginner’s shoe boasting impressive technical features

Points to watch - Marginally more expensive than other shoes in its category

TYPICAL PRICES - around £55.00/$90.00
