A Broadway Show |

People think of the Big Apple as an adult place but it also rocks for kids. For three years TV news journalist Carolyn Rogalsky edited the Calendar of Events for New York Families. Here she picks five great day trips for kids Click to view Top 5 New York Outings for Kids.

Best Rainy Day Event (A Broadway Show) |
 |
Since rain happens when it darn well pleases, you can’t plan ahead for this one. Your best option for last minute tickets is the Theatre Development Fund (TDF) ticket window in Times Square, which is a classic New York experience in itself. |
| |
Lodged in newly renovated kiosk in the centre of Times Square at Broadway and W 47 St, the TDF booth is the scene of plenty of drama while you wait.
Send a reading member of your tribe to the front of the line to check out the list of what’s being offered that day. It’s also helpful to take a complete listing of Broadway shows and descriptions with you, so you can read up on your choices.
|
| |
The booth, which has been in operation since 1973, sells Broadway, off-Broadway, dance, and music events. Tickets are available on the day of performance at up to 50% off.

Pleasing Perennials |
Although there is no guarantee of what shows will be available on any given day, you can get a pretty good idea of what will be there by going online (www.tdf.org) to see what was selling the previous week. When I last checked, the family-pleasing perennials Beauty and the Beast, Hairspray, the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Tarzan, and the Wedding Singer were available. The list includes links directly to the Broadway shows’ box offices in the event that you have your heart set on a particular show, and you want to check to see if full-price tickets are available.
|
| |
The hours of operation are: Monday through Saturday, 3pm to 8pm for 8pm performances; Wednesday and Saturday, 10am to 2pm for 2pm matinee performances; and Sundays, 11am to 3pm for matinee performances, and 3pm to closing for Sunday evening performances. Be sure to bring a wad of cash, as payment is by cash or traveller's cheques only.
