Overview |
 |
London is now a leading destination for food lovers, many of whom travel to the capital specifically to sample the many culinary delights on offer in the food markets, delicatessens, food halls, and restaurants. For sheer variety, it rivals other gourmet hotspots like New York, Paris and Sydney. |
| |
The current buzzwords on the capital’s food scene are local, seasonal, regional, handmade, British and, to certain extent, organic. The restaurant scene has flourished, but so has – contradictory though it may seem – home cooking.

I have listed five of the top must-visit destinations that capture the zeitgeist: from a street market that sells speciality ingredients from around the world, to a famous food hall that’s kid-friendly – via afternoon tea for the fashion-conscious, a traditional pub meal, and a shop that makes nostalgic British food taste exciting as well as exotic. If you only have a weekend to spare, these are the places you should visit. Just one word of advice: set out with an empty stomach and a roaring appetite.
