If you want to be sure of fresh tracks then Mount Baker is the place to go. This tiny resort has only a few lifts but it gets more snow than any other resort in north America. It's also very small and undeveloped, so there's no crowds. If it's a pure powder vibe you're after, Mt Baker will deliver every time.

Want to burn the candle bright at both ends? Then head for Whistler. It's not as big in terms of lifts as some European resorts but it has enough off-piste and backcountry action to last even the best skiiers a lifetime. And when you're done skiing there's plenty of bars to chill in.
If you like it steep and deep (and hate snowboarders) then Alta is the place for you. There is not too much partying in this Mormon town but for classic old school powder days it is hard to beat. In fact it's so trad that that snowboards are still banned. Alta is a throwback to the good old days - the days before snowboarding.
Aspen has a reputation as being a place for pampered business moguls and celebrities but it also offers some of the best powder skiing in America. If you have a bit of cash and want to combine days in the backcountry with luxury nights, then Aspen's the place.
Love skiing powder but blessed (or is that saddled?) with kids who are not quite up to it yet? Then head to Mammoth. It's a resort where mum and dad can get into the deep stuff, while an excellent ski school looks after the children on gental slopes near by. Mommoth has something for everyone.
