Best Classic Powder Ski Resort (Alta, Utah) |
 |
If you like it steep and deep (and hate snowboarders) then Alta is the place for you. There is not too much partying in this Mormon town but for classic old school powder days it is hard to beat. In fact it's so trad that that snowboards are still banned. Alta is a throwback to the good old days - the days before snowboarding. |

And you won’t see anyone snowboarding at Alta because they still don’t allow it.
And that means fewer people on powder days, at a resort that receives more than 500 inches of snow annually.

Best of all, the snow falls on terrain that is steep. Alta is full of chutes, steep tree skiing and rocky cliffs and the resort is best suited for experts.
If you have the skills, the mountain is a playground, one which is even better when combined with next door Snowbird. While the boundary between the two ski areas used to be closed, skiers can now purchase a joint lift ticket and enjoy them both. But remember, that while the skiing is world-class, the nightlife isn’t. This is Utah, after all, and the Mormon influence is felt everywhere, even at Alta. |
