Powder hounds the world over should put heliskiing in the midnight sun in Riksgransen, Sweden, in their ‘list of things to do before you die’. The heliskiing here is out of this world - you will never, ever, forget it. In the first winter months Riksgransen is in complete darkness.
If you are just learning to ski powder, head for La Plagne. It's the perfect place to practice deep snow turns as there is great off-piste terrain right next to the marked runs. There are also some big open snow-fields and powder bowls to progress to with no hiking required.
If you want a resort where you can drop off the kids at 9am and be back - after a hard days powder skiing - to pick them up at 3pm, then Courchevel 1650 is the place to be. Not only is the skiing on the door step but the door step is quite and offers easy access to one of the biggest ski playgrounds in the world.
As a touring base, there is no better place than the Chamonix valley and Mont Blanc Massif. Chamonix has endless possibilities for touring, from introduction courses to full 6 day expeditions. If you want to get away from it all, then this is Chamonix is the place to go.
