Best for Watersports (Mylor) |
 |
If you want watersports galore - with the exception of surfing - you cannot do better than Mylor Yacht Harbour. This marina looks like St Tropez on a sunny day and offers excellent sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and waterskiing. |
| |
It harbour lies on the south coast between Falmouth and Truro and expert tuition and the best equipment are available if you need it.
Windsport (01326 376191), next to Mylor Harbour Cafe (ideal for day-time snacks), should be the first stop for booking watersports. It provides individual or group tuition on a wide range of activities for all levels simply for fun or with the aim of getting a qualification at the end of it. |

You can book windsurfing, canoeing, power boating or multi-action days out which include a chance to try out all the different activities. The multi-action courses are particularly enjoyed by children as they never have a chance to get bored and even include building your own raft and sailing it.
Windsport also hire out a vast choice of watersports equipment by the hour, day or week including top-of-the-range sailing boats and power boats.
Waterskiing and wakeboarding instruction (£20 for 20 minutes on the water) can be booked through the Falmouth Riders Club (07771 960 340), based at Mylor, and the same instructors also run the Mylor Sailing School. This offers one-to-one instruction on several different sizes of boat and can be booked in half day sessions at £75 and four day courses for £450. |

The great plus about Mylor is that it is provides immediate access to the county's finest sailing area: the Carrick Roads.
The beach is small and has shingles so sandcastle-building is out. However, for those in your family who do not want to opt for water activities, Mylor has a 12th century church and delightful coastal walks. The water taxi and ferry service that runs from the harbour can take you to the unspoilt inlets around the Carrick Roads, as well as on shopping trips to Falmouth and St Mawes.
At the end of an energetic day, stop off at the family-friendly Castaways wine bar (01326 377710). For a more formal evening meal, book a table at the excellent Ganges Restaurant (01326 374320). |
