Best for Toddlers (Daymer Bay) |
 |
Daymer Bay, near Rock on Cornwall's north coast, is perfect for small children. A wide expanse of sand with an abundance of rock pools at low tide, the beach has dunes, a gentle incline and is largely free from the strong currents of neighbouring coves. |

| The Sunday Times Travel section named Daymer as one of the six best beaches in the world in May 1998 and later, in July 2003, called this area of coastline "Britain's Cote D'Azur". The sand is the perfect texture for sandcastle-building and there is plenty of sea life in the rock pools to keep young children busy for hours. |

For older children and parents, the beach is ideal for windsurfing and kite-surfing, while the sailing fraternity come down the estuary from neighbouring Rock. It is well worth taking a stroll up Brea Hill for the view alone - and also take a short walk over the dunes to St Enodoc Church, loved by the poet, Sir John Betjeman. He is buried in the graveyard there.
Out of the peak holiday season, Daymer Bay – which sits at the mouth of the River Camel - has more than enough space to keep everyone happy but during July and August it can get overcrowded. To escape the crowds just walk around Brea Hill at low tide - or over it at high tide - and head to the strip of relatively empty sand that sits just beyond. The locals call it "the Caribbean".
There’s a good sized car park at Daymer and the toilet and cafe/shop facilities are fine. |
