Best for Travel (Nationwide Classic, 17.9% APR) |
 |
Heading off on a gap year? Planning some serious spending abroad? If so, you should seriously consider a Nationwide BS Classic. It's one of the only British credit cards not to charge loony loading fees on purchases made abroad. |
| |
Even the most competitive credit card providers find sneaky ways of raking in extra profit and one of the most common is to charge you a fee of between 2% and 3% on all purchases made when travelling abroad. These charges hit particularly hard because many of us use our credit cards most when travelling.
If you fall into this category or are planning a long trip away, the Nationwide BC Classic makes a lot of sense. It has no loading whatever on purchases made abroad whether in the EC or further afield. It is one of very few widely available credit cards to offer this and will save you between £10 and £30 on every £1,000 you spend overseas.
Unfortunately the standard 17.9% APR charged by Nationwide on purchases is not competitive, so we do not recommend you use the card for long-term borrowing. However, if you clear the balance each month before interest kicks in, it is the cheapest credit card available for globetrotting.
The card also offers 0% interest on purchases for the first nine months. |
