Best Off-Roader (Mountain Buggy Terrain) |
 |
While many mums may never find themselves tackling anywhere more rugged than the mean streets of the suburbs, for those who need a go-anywhere pushchair there is only one choice, the Mountain Buggy Terrain. This is a true off-roader that can handle any surface from snow to sand and anything in between. |
| |
Designed by New Zealand off road pushchair specialist, Mountain Buggy, the Terrain was originally created to give mums more access to the outdoors, allowing them to buy a buggy that could cope not only with urban streets, but farmland, snow, mud, beaches and even, yes, the mountains.

It has a lot in common with the Baby Jogger pushchair in that it features a fixed front wheel for improved control and air-filled tyres for better shock absorption, however the tyres are specifically designed to be robust enough to deal with harsh terrain.
The wheel size is smaller than the Baby Jogger at 12in, but thanks to the built-in shock absorbers they will provide a smooth ride no matter how uneven the surface. The offroad tyre tread also helps to keep the Mountain Buggy stable. To ensure against wear and tear the buggy is built on an anodized frame, which guards against scratching and scuffing.
To make sure your baby is kept as comfortable as possible while you are out and about it has a fully reclinable seat, so it can be used from birth, unlike the Baby Jogger, and there's a sun canopy to keep your baby shaded. There is also the option to use this as a travel system and you can slot in a carrycot or car seat, which makes it more versatile than the Baby Jogger.
It's simple to fold up, and if necessary you can easily remove the back wheels for storage in the boot of a car. Finally, at just 8.8kg, it is nice and lightweight.

Winning design |
At over £400 the Mountain Buggy Terrain isn't cheap, and is definitely designed for a niche market - the folk who really need a genuine off-road buggy. But if you fall into this category then this buggy is certainly a winner, with British and Italian Design Awards to its name as well as a whole host of press endorsements including from the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Fit Pregnancy magazine.
Users are equally pleased with the buggy with Babyworld forum users saying: "I have a Mountain Buggy Terrain for our 14 month daughter and we've used it since she was 12 weeks old to walk the dog in the woods. It's fab and easy to fold down and put in the car" and "I looked endlessly to get the perfect off-road buggy … The best I found was the Mountain Buggy. It's fantastic and myself and my baby are thrilled with it … we have been on all terrain and it's brilliant".
