The Ultimate iPod (80GB iPod) |
 |
The 80GB model is the best iPod that money can buy. It offers a massive memory capable of housing 20,000 songs and a gorgeously bright colour display that allows you to watch video clips and films. Even its battery is a cut above the rest and should keep you rocking for a full 20 hours. If you have the money, go buy one. |
Film and Music |
A capacity of 80GB, which adds up to 20,000 songs, might seem excessive, but that all depends on who you are talking to. Sure, if you want to download a few songs to keep you entertained on your journey to work, or while you pound the treadmill, then this is overkill but this iPod allows serious audiophiles to fit their whole collection onto one device.
The 80GB iPod isn't just about music, it's about video and pictures too. It can store up 100 hours of video or 25,000 photos. The 2.5in screen is 60% brighter than its predecessor and ideal for viewing holiday pics. When it comes to video, it's perhaps not the ideal medium to watch the latest blockbuster but you can keep yourself amused watching funny clips or, at a pinch, a downloaded music video or TV show. |

Playlist iPod guide writer Dan Frakes says "The storage makes this the biggest iPod ever, appealing to those who use their iPod for storing video (and, of course, those with huge music collections or who listen to high-bit-rate, lossless or uncompressed music)."
This top of the range iPod boasts a 20-hour battery life, which is excellent in a device this small with a screen this large, and is six hours more than the 30GB version, another reason why it wins the crown of ultimate iPod. Battery life does fall to 6.5 hours when watching video, but you can extend this by using the new brightness adjustment control on the onscreen menu, which, if you set it at the lowest level, can extend it by an extra hour or so.
Another benefit of this great battery life twinned with a bright screen is the ability to use the iPod to play more sophisticated games. While iPod games are limited by the click wheel controller, they can now offer a much more entertaining way to kill time than was previously possible. |
Award Winning |
The iPod connects to a PC or Mac via a USB dock. Because this device packs in so much, it's the largest member of the iPod family, although at 156g and 103.5x61.8x14mm it's hardly a burden to carry around.
All these features add up to make the 80GB iPod the ultimate iPod you can buy, but don't just take our word for it, as it has won a whole host of other accolades, including being selected as Time magazine's gadget of the week and winning an editor's choice award from PC Magazine. |
