Best in Simplicity (Personal Shriek Alarm, £6.50)
This gas powered alarm is one of the most simple and easy to use on the market. It makes a deafening noise and is one of only two alarms recommended by the personal safety charity the Suzy Lamplugh Trust. What you see is what you get.
For those who absolutely will not compromise on style. This egg shaped metallic alarm is so attractive, at first glance you’d have no idea it was a personal alarm at all. It can even custom engraved with your initials or monogram.
This battery powered alarm is shaped to fit snugly into the palm of your hand. Slightly more technical than the Shriek, you can put it on ‘stand-by’ when walking alone. This means it will go off even if you are given no warning of an attack. It’s also recommended by the Suzy Lamplugh trust.
A mini alarm with maximum performance. It is the loudest alarm in our top five at 140 decibels and it also the smallest, especially designed to fit on to your key ring. If it is small you’re after, this is the one.
This gas powered three in one alarm not only makes an ear piercing sound, but a horrible smell is emitted and your attacker is ‘branded’ with an ultraviolet marker that may help the police track them down afterwards. If you want your attacker caught this is the one.
