The MacBook introduced Intel processors to Apple's consumer laptop range, and the latest additions to the family use the most up-to-date version, called Intel Core 2 Duo, which means they are even faster than their predecessors.

 As you would expect from Apple the MacBook is beautifully designed, and comes in two shades, black and white, and while the black version is very cool, we chose the white as it’s a little cheaper for the same specification.
This combination has made the MacBook into an award winner many times over, winning Apple product of the year from both MacUser and Macworld magazines this year.
Our choice for the best specification is the 2GHz model, as it offers the best performance. The processor is backed up by 2GB of memory, which is plenty to run any non-professional application at top speed. It offers 80GB of storage on its hard drive, plus a combined CD and DVD writer.

The screen measures 13in and has a glossy coating to offer sharper image quality, something that is common on PC-based laptops, but a new addition to the Mac. Macworld US magazines says: "The result is a display with much more reflectivity — think of a television set —but also very crisp blacks, bright whites, and vibrant, pleasing colours."
To ensure that you can connect your laptop up to the internet and other devices, the MacBook has both wireless and Bluetooth connectivity built in. The latter means you can connect wirelessly to similarly enabled devices such as mobile phones and PDAs.

 One thing to note is that while Mac-based computers are becoming more popular on the back of the success of the iPod, and certainly appeal to the more design conscious among us, they are still far less prevalent than Windows-based PCs. This means that if you opt for a Mac laptop you will have to learn how to use a different operating system (the basic software package that you use to operate your PC). You will also have a more limited range of software and will have to wait for some titles to be adapted to the Mac, particularly games. You might also have some problems sharing files with Windows users, although this isn't nearly as difficult as it used to be. But on the plus side viruses are virtually unknown on the Mac.
