Best budget (Epson Stylus Photo R265)

Photo Printers - Epson Stylus Photo R240 | MediumPhoto printers can be pricey, particularly when you factor in the cost of paper and ink, but the Epson Stylus Photo R265 proves that you can get great quality results without spending a fortune.  (Compare Prices)

Epson's Stylus Photo R265 comes in at a penny under £70, but don't be fooled by this low price - it's still a top performer. It has all the features you'd expect, including a PictBridge port for direct printing without the need for a PC, and a small, but good quality, LCD screen to preview images.

It can print up to A4 sized photos and is super simple in use, so even beginners should be able to get the best results. This is something worth bearing in mind as many more expensive models require a lot more complicated fiddling around with settings to get top-quality output.

It offers six colour printing for more realistic results (cyan, light cyan, magenta, light magenta, yellow and black) but surprisingly output quality doesn’t really suffer.

Photo Printers - Epson Stylus Photo R240 | SmallEpson says the Stylus Photo R265 takes around 13 seconds to print a 10x15cm photo in draft mode, though it's always worth taking such claims with a pinch of salt.

Although photo printers aren't designed for text printing, if they can bang out a letter or two when you need them to, all the better and one of the things that makes this printer such good value for money is that it can do just that. Again Epson says it can output up to 30ppm of mono text, so it should be good enough for light home use.

It's this versatility combined with quality that has won the printer praise and it has snapped up a Which? Best Buy award.  (Compare Prices)
