Best Military FPS (Call of Duty 2) |
 |
When most activity in FPS games involves shooting, it's hardly surprising that military games dominate. And of all the eras to explore, the richest is World War II. It has compelling battles and a universally demonized European foe. The best WWII FPS on the market is still Call of Duty 2, available for both PC and Xbox 360. |

| What could be better than ridding the world of the Nazi threat, without imperiling your own hide or losing friends and loved ones? |
| |
The Call of Duty franchise explores the biggest battles of World War II, making you an integral part of the last just war, emphasizing the glory and downplaying the personal tragedies inherent in armed conflict.
Call of Duty 2 manages to make you the most critical soldier on every front in Europe. |
Fight on Every Front |
| Call of Duty 2 pits you against the German forces as Russian, British and American soldiers, together with entire squads of your compatriots as you participate in famous WWII battles. The action in Call of Duty 2 is the perfect compromise between realism and fun. Carelessly running across the battlefield is as lethal as it should be, but players can still take more damage than an ordinary human, and, after time, shrug off even the most painful of shots. |
| |
Best of all, the different campaigns and nationalities let players explore every type of terrain and scenario, from destroying artillery emplacements to commanding a tank. Call of Duty 2 adds smoke grenades to the typical Call of Duty formula, so you can even create your own cover under which you and your squad can advance.
While we're recommending Call of Duty 2 for its single-player story missions, the game does have a significant community of online players for it’s solid multiplayer aspect. But with its exceptional single-player missions, the online aspect of Call of Duty 2 is simply a bonus. Yes, there is a Call of Duty 3 available for the Xbox 360, but it isn't a significant advance over Call of Duty 2. It just costs more. |
